A Midsummer Night's Dream

Colored pencil, ink pen, and gouache

This design is inspired by feudal Japanese styles, kabuki theatre, wood block prints, and Shinto spiritualism. Japan is a very mystical culture and the supernatural, especially in nature itself, is integral to its belief systems. 

The vibrant colors of nature inspired the fairies and magical beings, while cooler blues and neutrals distinguished the humans from the nature. The textures and interesting details of kimonos and nature were great resources in this design.
